A play couch is a versatile toy & sometimes piece of furniture designed to foster imaginative play and creativity in children. Typically made of foam, these couches come in various shapes, sizes, and configurations, serving as a platform for exploration, climbing, and building. They provide a canvas for imaginative scenarios, from transforming into forts or castles to facilitating physical activities like climbing and jumping.
Foam density refers to the measure of mass per unit volume of foam material and serves as a crucial indicator of its firmness and supportiveness. The density of foam is typically measured in pounds per cubic foot (lbs/ft³) or kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³). Higher density foam means there is more material compacted into the same volume, resulting in a firmer and more supportive structure. For instance, a foam with higher density will offer better support for weight-bearing activities or for older children engaging in play. On the contrary, lower density foam tends to be softer and more pliable, making it comfortable for younger kids or for activities where a softer surface is preferred. Understanding foam density is essential when choosing play couches or foam-based products, as it directly correlates with the firmness and overall feel of the furniture or accessory being considered. A higher density foam will therefore last longer and stand the test of time. There is additional weight involved and too dense of a foam will be heavy for younger kids to move the pieces independently. High density foam may also not be able to get compressed for shipping or can only be compressed for a very short time without compromising quality.
ILD, or Indentation Load Deflection, is a metric used to measure the firmness or hardness of foam. It represents the amount of force, in pounds, required to indent a foam sample by 25% of its original thickness. A higher ILD indicates firmer foam, as it requires more force to compress it. For instance, foam with an ILD of 30 would feel softer compared to foam with an ILD of 50. ILD is crucial in determining the suitability of foam for specific purposes; higher ILD foam provides more support and is often preferred for weight-bearing activities or applications where durability and resilience are required, while lower ILD foam is softer and more yielding, offering comfort and cushioning for activities that prioritize a plush feel. Understanding ILD assists in selecting the appropriate foam type for different age groups or activities when considering play couches or other foam-based products. If your goal is to build weight-supporting structures you will want high ILD foam. If you intend to use the play couch as a couch or bed, then you will want to look at lower/medium ILD foam so that it will be comfortable and not feel physically hard to touch. Younger children will also benefit from medium ILD foam as the high ILD foam can hurt a child if it lands on them.
CertiPUR-US® is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the safety, quality, and environmental friendliness of foam used in various products, including mattresses, furniture, and upholstered goods like play couches. To achieve CertiPUR-US certification, foam manufacturers must adhere to stringent criteria and rigorous testing processes. Certified foams must be free from harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, ozone depleters, PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead, and other heavy metals. They also must have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions to promote indoor air quality. For play couch foam, CertiPUR-US® certification provides assurance to consumers that the foam used in these products meets strict safety and environmental standards. It signifies that the foam has been independently tested and certified to be free from certain harmful substances, contributing to a healthier and safer environment for children during playtime.
Play couches come in various fabric options, each offering distinct characteristics and benefits tailored to different preferences and needs. Microsuede stands out as the most prevalent choice due to its durability, ease of cleaning, and soft texture, making it a popular fabric across numerous brands. However, for households with pets, double brushed fabrics present a favorable option, as they are more resistant to pet hair and scratches. Additionally, some play couches feature fabrics designed for outdoor use, such as taslan and vegan leather, known for their wipeable surfaces ideal for mess-prone environments. Nevertheless, caution is advised with taslan and vegan leather, as they can be prone to scratching, particularly in homes with pets. Understanding the characteristics and maintenance needs of each fabric type helps in selecting the most suitable option based on specific household requirements and preferences.
Washing and drying your play couch cover can help maintain its cleanliness and longevity. Before laundering, always refer to the manufacturer's care instructions specific to your cover's fabric type. Many covers are machine washable, but it's essential to use a gentle cycle with cold water to prevent shrinkage or damage. For spot-cleaning or minor stains, a damp cloth or gentle detergent can be used. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals that might compromise the fabric's integrity. Once washed, air-drying is typically recommended to prevent potential shrinkage or damage from high heat. Some covers might be dryer-safe, but it's advisable to use a low or no-heat setting to preserve the fabric quality. Proper care and maintenance through washing and drying ensure a clean and hygienic surface for continued safe and enjoyable playtime on your play couch.
Introducing play couches into a household with pets requires consideration for both the comfort of the pets and the maintenance of the couch. While pets might find the play couch a cozy spot to lounge or play, it's essential to select a fabric that is durable and pet-friendly. Fabrics that are scratch-resistant, easy to clean, and less prone to trapping pet hair or odors can be beneficial. Regularly vacuuming or using lint rollers can help manage pet hair on the couch cover. Additionally, training pets to avoid scratching or biting the play couch can help maintain its condition. Waterproof liners will also be important for families with pets to maintain the cleanliness of the foam as well as ensure no naked foam is exposed when covers are being washed.
Many play couch brands now offer add-on shapes if the play couch did not come with enough pieces to build with the standard play couch. A wide semi-circle commonly called a Rocker is used for kids to rock back & forth on. A tall arched doorway creates an entry to forts. However, not all arches are wide enough to stand alone and often must be used in combination with other pieces from the play couch. With the Barumba Play, you can place the arch on top of the arm rests to create the same arched doorway with the pieces that come with the play couch. Another shape commonly offered is a wedge to use as a slide. You can also use the base piece as a slide on the stairs or with a triangle or other shapes underneath to create a slide without the need for a wedge.
Unboxing a play couch is an exciting moment that marks the beginning of its journey from compressed packaging to a full, usable piece of furniture. Notably, overseas brands often require weeks to fully expand and fluff up due to their extended time in compressed packaging during shipping. In contrast, play couches manufactured in North America typically fluff up almost immediately upon unboxing. This quick expansion is attributed to the shorter duration these North American-made couches spend compressed in their boxes during transportation. The reduced time in compression allows them to swiftly regain their intended shape and firmness, ensuring a quicker readiness for playtime and immediate enjoyment after unboxing.
Combining a play couch with other toys in the home can make it that you find new ways to have fun with old toys. Play Panels turn your play couch into scenes such as a coffee shop or fire station. Sarah’s Silks make beautiful roofs for forts or airy doorways. A Wooble board makes a perfect slide or ramp in or out of a play couch house.
There are a variety of toy safety testing standards that can be conducted by third party laboratories to ensure that a play couch is safe. Fabric should be tested for flammability, lead, heavy metals, PFAS, etc to ensure it is safe for your family. No all play couch brands conduct safety testing or are PFAS free. Enquire with the brand or check out their FAQ or website product page to see if they have gone through testing for their play couch.
]]>Play couches are a versatile and fun addition to playrooms and family spaces. These modular pieces of furniture are designed to encourage creativity and imaginative play. While many play couch brands offer quality products and enjoyable play experiences, it's essential to be an informed consumer. Here are five things that some play couch brands might not be forthcoming about:
1. They can stay in the box for a while: Play couches can stay in their box for several months after going in them despite most brands saying to open them right away. This is for a few reasons. Play couches that are made overseas have already been in the box for months when they get to you so their 'time in the box' has been used up in transit. They want to handle potential warranty claims while they still have stock. They don't want you to keep it in their for a really long time and end up with a play couch that does not fully decompress.
2. Limited Versatility: A typical 4 piece play couch actually has very limited versatility. Most families end up needing to purchase more play couches or add-on shapes to end up with enough foam to make interesting builds. This will increase the overall amount spent on play couches as well as the extra space taken up in your home. It is usually better to invest in more pieces in a single play couch to start to have many more build options within the same footprint.
3. Permanent Wrinkles: Some play couch brands compress their couches with the fabric covers on for shipping. While this may seem convenient, it can result in permanent wrinkles in the fabric. Brands may not always disclose this, and parents might discover unsightly wrinkles when they unpack the play couch. To avoid this issue, look for brands that ship their covers separately or provide clear instructions on how to prevent fabric wrinkles during unboxing and setup. This way, your play couch will maintain its aesthetic appeal for longer periods.
4. Quality Varies Widely: Not all play couch brands prioritize quality. Some may cut corners in manufacturing, resulting in play couches that don't hold up well over time. These cheaper alternatives may use subpar foam and fabrics, which can lead to sagging, tearing, or discomfort. To ensure a durable and long-lasting play couch, it's essential to research and invest in a reputable brand. Look at the density used in the foam. A foam with a lower density, such as a 1.3, will sag after a year or so compared to foam that is higher and at least a 1.7. Look at reviews on their website and off their website. If they don't transparently state what foam ILD and density is used- ask!
5. Safety Standards Vary: Safety is paramount when it comes to children's furniture. Some play couch brands may not disclose whether their products meet recognized safety standards. This can include factors such as fire resistance, lead or heavy metals in the fabric or using CertiPur® Certified foam. In fact, play couches do not meet safety standards for children under 3 years old due to the foam being considered a small part, therefore a choking hazard.
In conclusion, while play couches can be a fantastic addition to your child's play area, it's essential to be an informed consumer. Research different brands, read reviews, and ask questions. By doing so, you can make an educated decision and select a play couch that aligns with your family's needs and values.
]]>Children with Down Syndrome often face physical challenges, including hypotonia, a condition characterized by low muscle tone. This can make it difficult for them to achieve important physical milestones. In this case study, we explore how the Barumba Play™ Couch became an essential tool in helping a young boy overcome these challenges and reach his physical milestones.
Customer Name: Maria
Child's Name: Salem
Condition: Down Syndrome with Hypotonia
Salem, like many children with Down Syndrome, experienced hypotonia, which made it challenging for him to develop muscle strength and coordination. Basic tasks such as climbing, standing, and balancing were particularly difficult for him.
Maria, Salem's mother, discovered the Barumba Play™ Couch, a versatile toy frequently used to work on gross motor skills, to promote physical activity and development in children. Recognizing its potential to aid Salem's progress, Maria decided to give it a try.
Maria incorporated the Barumba Play™ Couch into Salem's daily routine, using it as a tool to help him build strength, balance, and coordination. Maria states, "With the play couch, I can put one piece and get him to sit on it and reach from his core to get something. And then when he gets good at that, we can put the two pieces up and he can reach from the core to get that. Having all these options for him, for crawling, for getting up and down off the couch, this has become an integral piece to him moving forward quicker."
"I love the amount of pieces. It's not too much, it's not too little. They all work really well together. I feel like this is the full package," says his mother Maria. "We use it for setting up a hill. And he climbs up and down the hill, balancing himself out so he doesn't tip off either side. That's good for his balance and muscle groups. I'm not sure how else he would really engage safely."
Over time, Salem's consistent use of the Barumba Play™ Couch yielded impressive results:
His muscle tone improved and coordination improved as he continued to play each day with the Barumba Play™ couch in various ways targeting different skills and muscle groups. "We use it literally all day, every day for so many things. But right now, the biggest thing that we've used it for is getting on and off things."
Salem gained confidence in his physical abilities, allowing him to attempt new challenges. His balance and coordination showed remarkable progress, enabling him to perform tasks that were once challenging.
The Barumba Play™ Couch proved to be an invaluable tool in Salem's developmental journey. By addressing the physical challenges associated with down syndrome and hypotonia, it empowered him to overcome challenges and reach essential physical milestones. Maria's decision to incorporate the play couch into their daily routine was a game-changer, fostering Salem's physical and emotional growth.
]]>As parents, we all strive to create a harmonious home environment where our children can play, learn, and grow. Introducing a play couch into your living space can be a game-changer, revolutionizing playtime and providing a range of benefits that parents absolutely love. Let's explore why more and more parents are embracing the play couch trend and why you should consider it too.
Effortless Cleanup: One of the top reasons parents adore having a play couch is the ease of cleanup. With traditional play areas, tidying up can be a daunting task that eats up precious time and energy. However, with a play couch, clean up takes just 30 seconds. Parents can now enjoy a clutter-free living space and have more time to relax and unwind in the evenings. A clean and organized home creates a peaceful atmosphere for both you and their children.
Durable and Washable: Unlike regular furniture that can be vulnerable to spills and stains, a play couch is designed to withstand the messiest of playtimes. The ability to wash the covers means that it's the only furniture in your home that remains pristine. Parents can rest easy knowing that their investment will stay looking and feeling fresh, even after countless play sessions. Enjoy peace of mind, knowing that their child's playtime won't result in damage to the furniture.
Promotes Independent Play: Another reason parents love having a play couch is that it encourages independent play. With the freedom to explore and engage in imaginative activities, children can have a few minutes of uninterrupted play, giving parents a well-deserved break.
Soft and Safe: Unlike toys with hard surfaces, such as wooden blocks, a play couch is soft and gentle, minimizing the risk of one sibling accidentally hurting another during playtime. Have peace of mind, knowing that children are playing in a safe environment where bumps and collisions are less likely to result in injuries. The play couch provides a cozy and cushioned surface that promotes both comfort and safety during play.
Versatile Seating: A play couch serves a dual purpose by not only being a dedicated play space but also functioning as seating in the playroom. Instead of sitting on the floor during play sessions, parents and children can comfortably sit on the play couch, offering a cozy and inviting spot for shared playtime or storytelling moments. It creates a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, enhancing the overall play experience.
Saves the Sofa: When kids are home sick or experiencing potty training accidents, a play couch becomes a lifesaver. It provides a designated spot where children can rest compromising the main sofa. Parents can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their furniture is protected, and any messes can be easily cleaned from the play couch's washable covers. It ensures a hygienic and stress-free solution during those challenging moments.

During play therapy, a qualified therapist works with the child in a one-on-one or group setting to explore the child's emotions, thoughts, and experiences. The therapist may use a variety of play-based techniques and activities, such as drawing, painting, building with blocks, playing with a play couch. using dolls or figurines, and engaging in pretend play. The therapist provides a range of toys and materials for the child to choose from, allowing the child to explore their emotions and experiences in a way that feels comfortable for them.
One of the key benefits of play therapy is that it allows children to communicate their emotions in a nonverbal way. This can be particularly helpful for children who struggle to express themselves verbally or who may not yet have the language skills to talk about their feelings. Play therapy can also help children who have experienced trauma to process their experiences in a safe and supportive environment. By allowing the child to reenact their experiences in a play setting, they can gain a sense of control over what happened to them and begin to work through their feelings.
Another important aspect of play therapy is that it helps to build a positive and supportive relationship between the child and the therapist. This can be especially important for children who may have difficulty forming relationships with others due to anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges. The therapist works to establish a trusting and empathetic relationship with the child, providing a safe and supportive space for the child to explore their emotions and experiences. Play therapy is typically conducted on a one-on-one basis, but can also be done in a group setting. Group play therapy can be especially helpful for children who are struggling with social skills or who may benefit from the support of their peers. In group play therapy sessions, children are given the opportunity to interact and play with each other, while the therapist provides guidance and support.
Play therapy is a highly effective form of therapy for children, with research showing that it can lead to significant improvements in emotional, behavioural, and mental health outcomes. It is also a flexible form of therapy that can be adapted to meet the unique needs of each child.
If you are considering play therapy for your child, it is important to find a qualified and experienced therapist who specializes in this form of therapy. Play therapists typically have specialized training in child development, psychology, and play therapy techniques, and should be licensed and registered with a professional organization. Whether your child uses a play couch or other tools, play therapy can provide a safe and supportive environment for your child to express their emotions and work through their challenges.
]]>Social skills are a vital aspect of a child’s development. They help children to form relationships, communicate effectively, and navigate social situations. One effective way to develop social skills in children is through pretend play. Pretend play allows children to practice social situations in a safe and controlled environment. In this blog post, we will explore how to develop social skills through pretend play, and how a play couch can be an effective tool for this type of play.
Role-playing is an essential part of pretend play, as it allows children to take on different roles and practice social interactions. For example, a child may pretend to be a doctor and interact with a patient. Through this type of play, children can practice empathy, communication skills, and problem-solving skills. A play couch can be an excellent tool for role-playing, as it provides a comfortable and safe space for children to act out their scenarios. We've seen families set up scenes such as going to the dentist, getting a haircut, eating in a restaurant and more to practice scenarios in advance to teach kids what to expect and to help curb anxiety over new experiences.
Imaginative play involves creating scenarios and worlds that don’t exist in real life. This type of play allows children to explore their creativity and imagination, as well as practice social skills. For example, a child may pretend to be an astronaut and interact with other “astronauts” on a space mission or build a rocketship. Through this type of play, children can practice teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Storytelling is another effective way to develop social skills through pretend play. Children can create stories and scenarios that involve social interactions, such as going to a party or making friends at school. Through storytelling, children can practice communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Create a stage to set the scene and tell stories through song and dance.
Cooperative play involves playing with others and working together towards a common goal. This type of play helps children develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. For example, children may pretend to be on a treasure hunt and work together to find the treasure. Or participate in a multi-player team game. A play couch can be an effective tool for cooperative play, as it provides a comfortable and supportive space for children to work together.
Conflict resolution is an essential social skill that children need to learn. Pretend play can be an effective way to practice conflict resolution skills, as it allows children to practice resolving conflicts in a safe and controlled environment. For example, children may pretend to be arguing over a toy and practice negotiating a solution. A play couch can be an effective tool for conflict resolution play, as it provides a comfortable and supportive space for children to practice resolving conflicts.
Pretend play is a powerful tool for developing social skills in children. Through role-playing, imaginative play, storytelling, cooperative play, and conflict resolution, children can practice communication, empathy, teamwork, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. By incorporating pretend play into a child’s playtime, parents and caregivers can help them develop the social skills they need to navigate social situations and form meaningful relationships.

]]>Let's face it. Kids can be dirty. Walk into any house with a toddler and look beneath the cushions and you'll find crushed Cheerios (or Goldfish) and possibly the odd drool patch or milk stain. Probably some pen or sticker residue too. One amazing benefit to having kids hang out on their play couch (instead of your regular sofa), is that they can be cleaned. Here is a step-by-step guide to clean your play couch.
Step 1: Begin by unzipping the covers from the play couch. If the zipper sliders are tucked too far in to the zipper pockets that you cannot remove them with your fingers, use a paper clip to latch on to the zipper slider and gently pull to unhide it from the pocket.
Step 2: Once the covers are removed, we recommend you close the zippers before washing them. This precautionary step helps prevent any potential damage to the zippers during the washing process.
Step 3: Wash separately in cold water. Using cold water helps preserve the color and integrity of the fabric. Your regular detergent is fine, but avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the fabric and affect the colors. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the appropriate amount of detergent to use.
Step 4: Air dry with the zippers open after washing for quickest dry time. This allows for proper airflow and helps prevent any moisture buildup that can lead to mold or mildew. Avoid using a dryer or exposing the covers to direct sunlight, as this can cause shrinkage or fading. It may take a few hours or longer for the covers to dry completely, depending on the fabric and environmental conditions. We find if we wash them in the evening that they are dry by morning.
Step 5: Cleaning the waterproof liners (optional). The play couch come with waterproof liners that protect the foam interior from spills and accidents. These liners typically do not require frequent cleaning, but if you feel the need to freshen them up, you can follow the same instruction as above for the exterior covers (cold wash, hang to dry).
Step 6: Put the covers back on. Once the covers and liners are completely dry, it's time to reassemble your play couch. Insert the foam cushions back into the covers and zip them securely. Make sure everything is aligned and fitted correctly. Line the seams on the fabric up with the edges of the foam for the perfect fit. Tuck the zipper sliders back into the pockets to prevent zippers from scratching up the floors or walls or from little ones getting into the foam.
Now, your play couch is clean, fresh, and ready to be enjoyed once again!
For more regular maintenance, a lint brush or quick vacuum will do the trick when washing is not required. Microsuede is a great fabric for play couches as the friction in the fabric allows the cushions stay in place for builds. That friction can also attract dust and dirt so keeping your environment clean as possible will ensure your play couch stays clean too.

Play therapy is a widely recognized form of therapy that is used to help children overcome emotional and behavioural challenges. It provides a safe and supportive environment for children to explore their emotions and feelings, and work through challenges. One tool that is increasingly being used in play therapy is a play couch. A play couch is a specially designed couch that is used to facilitate play therapy sessions. In this blog post, we will explore some of the ways in which a play couch can be used in play therapy.
A play couch can be an excellent tool for sensory play. Sensory play is a type of play that engages the senses, such as touch, sound, and sight. The soft and comfortable surface of a play couch can be used to create a sensory experience for the child. The therapist can provide a variety of materials and textures for the child to play with, such as soft fabrics, textured balls, and squishy toys. This can help the child to explore their senses and develop their sensory awareness.
Pretend play is an important aspect of play therapy, as it allows children to express their emotions and experiences in a safe and supportive environment. A play couch can be used to facilitate pretend play activities, such as playing house, doctor, or school. The therapist can provide a variety of props and toys to help the child to create a pretend world that reflects their experiences and emotions.
Building play is another important aspect of play therapy, as it helps children to develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and fine motor skills. A play couch can be used to facilitate building play activities, such as building with blocks, Legos, or other construction materials. The soft surface of the couch can provide a safe and comfortable space for the child to build and create.
Storytelling is a powerful tool in play therapy, as it allows children to explore their emotions and experiences through narrative. A play couch can be used to facilitate storytelling activities, such as telling stories with dolls, figurines, or puppets. The therapist can help the child to create a story that reflects their experiences and emotions, and encourage them to express themselves through the narrative.
A play couch can also be used to facilitate relaxation activities in play therapy. The soft and comfortable surface of the couch can help the child to feel calm and relaxed. The therapist can use relaxation techniques, such as guided imagery or deep breathing exercises, to help the child to relax and reduce their anxiety.
A play couch can be an excellent tool for facilitating play therapy sessions. It provides a safe and supportive environment for children to explore their emotions and feelings, and work through any challenges they may be experiencing. By using a variety of play-based activities, such as sensory play, pretend play, building play, storytelling, and relaxation, a therapist can help a child to express themselves and develop the skills they need to overcome their challenges. Fort building is a classic childhood activity that has been around for generations. Whether it's using blankets and chairs or constructing elaborate structures with cardboard boxes, children seem to have an innate desire to create their own private spaces. While this activity may seem like just a fun way to pass the time, there is actually a lot of psychology behind why children are drawn to fort building.
Before we dive into the psychology of fort building, it's important to understand the concept of pretend play. Pretend play is an essential component of child development that allows children to explore the world around them, experiment with different roles and situations, and develop their imagination and creativity. It involves children using their imagination to create their own scenarios and narratives, often using props or costumes to bring their stories to life.
Fort building is a form of pretend play, as children create their own world within the structure they build. They may imagine themselves as pirates, princesses, or adventurers, and use their fort as a base for their imaginary adventures.
Play is not just a fun activity for children; it is also essential for their development. Research has shown that play helps children develop social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills. Play allows children to practice problem-solving, creativity, communication, and self-regulation. It also helps them develop important social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and cooperation.
So why are children so drawn to fort building? There are several reasons why this activity is so appealing to children:
Building a fort gives children a sense of control over their environment. They get to choose the materials, the location, and the design, and they can create a space that is uniquely their own. This sense of control can be particularly appealing to children who may feel like they have little control over other aspects of their lives.
Fort building also provides children with a sense of privacy and independence. They can create a space where they can play, imagine, and be themselves without the intrusion of adults or siblings. This can be particularly important for children who may feel like they don't have their own space in a busy household.
Fort building allows children to use their imagination and creativity in a tangible way. They get to create their own world and story, and they can bring that world to life through their fort. This can be a powerful experience for children, as it allows them to explore their own thoughts and feelings, and to experiment with different roles and scenarios.
Finally, fort building is just plain fun! Children love the process of building and designing their fort, and they love the sense of accomplishment they feel when it's complete. It's a way for them to have fun and be creative at the same time.
Fort building offers a wide range of benefits for children, including:
Fort building allows children to use their creativity and imagination in a tangible way. They get to design and construct their own space, which can be a powerful experience for them. This can help foster creativity and innovation in other areas of their lives as well.
Building a fort requires children to use problem-solving skills. They have to figure out the best way to construct their fort, how to make it stable, and how to make it comfortable. This can help children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve them well in other areas of their lives.
Fort building also provides children with a sense of independence and autonomy. They get to create their own space and make their own decisions about how it should look and feel. This can help boost their confidence and self-esteem.
While fort building is often done alone or with siblings, it can also be a great opportunity for children to practice social skills. They may need to negotiate with others about the design of their fort, or work together to construct a larger structure. This can help children develop important social skills such as communication, cooperation, and compromise.
Fort building is a great way to encourage and develop a child's imagination. When children build forts, they are creating their own world and story. They may imagine themselves as pirates, princesses, or superheroes, and use their fort as a base for their imaginary adventures. This type of imaginative play is essential for child development, as it allows children to explore different roles and scenarios, and to experiment with different emotions and situations.
If you want to encourage your child's love of fort building, here are some tips for building the perfect fort:
Collect all the materials you need before you start building. This might include blankets, pillows, chairs, cardboard boxes, and other household items.
If you want to get fancy: Push lamps are a great way to add light to the fort. Chip clips or binder clips work to attach blankets together.
Pick a location that is out of the way and won't be disturbed. This might be in a corner of the living room, in a bedroom, or outside in the backyard.
Decide on the design of your fort before you start building. Will it be a simple tent-style fort, or a more elaborate structure with multiple rooms? Are games going to be played inside that require everyone to sit up? Or is it to play house and bring in all the stuffed animals?
Start building your fort, using the materials you gathered and the design you chose. Be creative and try different ideas until you find one that works for you. When the fort doesn't go according to plan, it's a great opportunity to practice problem-solving skills (and a lesson in gravity!).
Once your fort is built, it's time to decorate it! Add pillows, blankets, and other decorations to make it cozy and comfortable.
If your child loves fort building, here are some other fort building activities you can try:
Instead of just building one fort, challenge your child to build an entire city of forts! They can create different structures and connect them with tunnels and walkways.
Build a fort maze using cardboard boxes, blankets, and other materials. Your child can crawl through the maze and try to find their way out.
Invite your child's friends over for a fort building party! Provide materials and snacks, and let the kids build their own forts.
Fort building isn't just for kids! Adults can also benefit from keeping a playful mindset and engaging in imaginative activities. Most adults forget to add play in their lives! And if you have a dog or cat, build a fort for them.
Here are some benefits of fort building for adults:
Building a fort can be a great way to relieve stress and unwind after a long day. It allows you to focus on something creative and imaginative, and can help you forget about your worries for a while.
Fort building is a great way to tap into your creativity and imagination. It allows you to experiment with different designs and materials, and to create something unique and personal.
Building a fort with a partner or friends can be a great bonding experience. It allows you to work together towards a common goal, and to share in the sense of accomplishment when your fort is complete.
Fort building is more than just child's play; it's an activity that offers a wide range of benefits for children and adults alike. From fostering creativity and imagination to promoting problem-solving and social skills, fort building is an essential component of child development. So the next time your child wants to build a fort, don't just brush it off as a silly activity. Join in the fun and see what you can create together!
Imaginative play is an important part of childhood development. It helps kids to build social, emotional, and cognitive skills that are crucial for their overall growth and well-being. Below we'll explore the developmental benefits of imaginative play and how parents can encourage this type of play in their children.
Imaginative play allows children to explore social situations and learn how to interact with others. It helps them to develop important social skills like sharing, cooperation, and communication. When kids engage in imaginative play with other children, they learn how to negotiate and resolve conflicts in a safe and supportive environment.
Imaginative play also plays a significant role in emotional development. Children can use pretend play to express their emotions and work through difficult feelings. For example, a child might act out a scene where they comfort a friend or play the role of a doctor to help a sick patient. These scenarios allow kids to explore and understand complex emotions like empathy and compassion
Imaginative play stimulates cognitive development by encouraging kids to use their imagination and creativity. It helps them to develop problem-solving skills by figuring out how to create and sustain a fictional world. Pretend play also enhances critical thinking and decision-making skills as children take on different roles and make choices based on the scenario they're playing out.
Imaginative play also plays a vital role in language development. Children use language to communicate with their playmates and express their ideas and emotions. They learn new words and phrases as they take on different roles and create different scenarios. They also improve their vocabulary and sentence structure as they describe the world around them and narrate their actions.
Open-ended toys like blocks, dolls, play couches and dress-up costumes provide children with the opportunity to use their imagination and creativity. These toys can be used in a variety of ways and can be adapted to suit different scenarios.
Joining in your child's imaginative play can be a great way to encourage their development. It shows them that you're interested in their play and can help to build their confidence and self-esteem. It also provides an opportunity for you to model social skills like cooperation and communication.
Allow your child the space and time to engage in imaginative play without interruption. This will help them to build concentration and focus, and it will allow them to fully immerse themselves in their fictional world.
Imaginative play is a critical aspect of childhood development. It helps children to build social, emotional, and cognitive skills that are crucial for their overall growth and well-being. By providing open-ended toys, joining in the play, giving your child space to play, and limiting screen time, parents can encourage their child's imaginative play and support their development. Remember, play is not just for fun; it's an essential part of childhood development!
]]>As children grow and develop, it's important to provide them with opportunities to practice their gross motor skills. Gross motor skills involve using large muscle groups and are important for everyday activities like running, jumping, and climbing. These skills help us with everyday tasks such as standing up straight, throwing, lifting and kicking.
Here are ten different activities that children can do at home with the Barumba Play™ couch to practice their gross motor skills:
Set up an obstacle course - Creating an obstacle course with the cushions of the Barumba Play™ couch is a fun way to practice crawling, jumping, climbing, and balancing skills. It also encourages children to think creatively and problem-solve as they figure out the best way to navigate the obstacles. They can slide or somersault down the triangle. They can crawl or step up on stacked pieces. Or jump over an arm rest rectangle.
Play "Simon Says" - This game is a fun way to practice following directions and moving different parts of the body. It can help children develop coordination, balance, and spatial awareness as they move their bodies in different ways. You can use the play couch pieces during the game to have them pick up certain shapes or do certain movements such as "Simon Says, pick up the triangle and hold it above your head" or practice different postures such as "Simon Says stand up really tall."
Dance party - Dancing is a fun and creative way to move the body and develop gross motor skills. It can help children develop rhythm, coordination, and balance while also providing an opportunity for self-expression and creativity. You can set up your play couch as a stage for the performance or use the pieces to set up "chairs" for family and stuffed animals to be the audience.
Throwing a ball - Throwing a ball helps improve hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills. It also encourages children to work on their depth perception and spatial awareness. You can set up the play couch pieces as walls with a basketball net in the middle to have the ball roll right back to your feet. Or use a smaller ball to aim in the middle of the arches as a circle target. Another option is to use the semi-circles as nets with a soccer ball.
Floor is Lava- This is a great game to practice planning movement, timing and jumping. Use the play couch pieces as islands to avoid the lava. You Tube has a Floor is Lava song to play in the background. Kids love jumping from piece to piece while avoiding the floor.
Balloon volleyball - Playing a game of volleyball with a balloon is a fun way to practice hitting and catching skills while also improving hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills. It can also encourage teamwork and social skills as children work together to keep the balloon in the air. Position the big connected mat from your play couch on its short side as your net. If you want to make it a 4 player game, then use the large rectangles and semi-circle in the arch to add additional walls and make it a 4 player game.
Limbo - Use the play couch pieces to build a doorway. Have kids duck to avoid hitting the roof. Change the build to have the kids go from walking to crawling to army crawling under the doorway that gets increasingly shorter. This activity works on spatial awareness and coordination.
Yoga - Practicing yoga poses helps children develop strength, balance, and flexibility. It can also be a great way to improve focus, concentration, and mindfulness, which can have benefits beyond just physical development. The play couch pieces can be a great spot to sit comfortable or use the triangle as a wedge for comfort.
Play Couch Builds - Get kids involved in the building by having them pick up the play couch pieces and design their own creations. They will develop muscle tone, planning and coordination as they learn how to place down pieces and plan their builds.

]]>Your Barumba Play™ couch showed up to your doorstep and you’re wondering what to expect? Keep reading for everything you need to know for when your play couch arrives.
]]>
How many boxes does it come in?
The play couch arrives in one tall box measuring 16x16x36 inches. We use a special machine to compress the foam and roll your play couch into a cylinder to fit in the box.
How long can it stay in the box?
We manufacture our play couches in Canada in small batches so they are never in the box for very long. If you need to keep it in the box for a few more weeks once it arrives, it will be totally fine. Just know that the longer the foam is compressed in the box, the longer it will take to fully decompress and regain its original firmness.
What happens when I open it?
When you open your box you will see a white coloured roll and wonder if we sent you the wrong colour! This is your waterproof liners on the foam. Your cover set is hiding inside.
Take your foam roll out of the box and carefully use scissors to cut open the plastic. The play couch will immediately start to puff up to its full size. Inside the roll you will find your play couch cover set.
There is a paper instruction booklet in the box too which will recap the washing instructions.
Play couch foam can take up to a few weeks to become totally firm, depending on how long it was in the box before opening.
Why is the cover set rolled inside?
The cover set can be found inside for a few reasons. When the cover set is put on the foam and compressed for shipping, it gets very wrinkly and does not look too nice. We wanted it to be perfect for you so found it much better to leave it off the foam for shipping. We also recommended washing the cover set so this makes it easier than taking the cover set off right away.
Why do I need to wash the cover set?
Have you ever bought a pair of blue jeans or a bright coloured shirt that turned your whites a new colour in the wash? We don’t want any colour transfer to happen on your carpet or walls so we recommend washing the cover set in cold water (hang to dry) to ensure that there is no colour transfer, especially in dark or bright colours.
Tip: Close the zippers during washing and open during drying.
Can I use the play couch right away?
Yes you can use the play couch right away with just the waterproof liners on it while you wash the cover set.
What do I do after the covers are washed?
After your covers are washed and back on the foam, there are zipper pockets for you to tuck the zippers in. These are there to prevent the zippers from scratching floors or walls. They also prevent curious little ones from having access to the foam.

Play couches can be excellent at home therapy tools to practice working on physical development skills. The modular nature of the foam cushions make them safe and versatile to adapt to individual physical therapy programs.
Depending on your family’s location, needs and insurance coverage you may even find that a play couch purchase is a qualified expense for reimbursement.
While we recommend you always consult your physical or occupational therapist about what exercises are right for your child, these are some of the methods that families have shared with us they have used with their children to practice meeting their physical milestones.
Lay cushions in a long row at waist height of the child to give them a soft place to practice walking with assistance. The arm rest pieces laid on top of the rectangles can be a good starting place to get the right height. Another option is to make two symmetrical rows of cushions for your child to walk between and have cushions placed to hold on to while walking.
Some families use their play couch pieces to create steps (almost like pet stairs) and a landing pad at the base of the family sofa to give their little ones the opportunity to go up the steps and get onto the couch independently while simultaneously having a soft place on the floor for any misses.
The play couch pieces are small enough for young children to lift up independently, so they are a great safe way for kids to practice lifting and lowering cushions while helping build play couch structures. They get to practice hand-eye coordination, use a variety of muscle groups- all while having fun and participating in the action!
]]>Is your school creating a calm down room or a calm down corner? Calm down rooms are a place for students to go to self-regulate their emotions or remove themselves from over-stimulating situations. They are meant to be a place to calm down intentionally and not used for punishment. They are a way for a student to remove themselves from an overwhelming environment and practice independently to regain control of their emotions. Reducing sensory overwhelm can be helpful so minimizing the number of colours, sounds or distractions can help the student focus inward.
Whether it be with a play couch that can be built into a fort or tent to hide, a place to feel safe and secure, apart from the rest of the world can be beneficial for students who need to remove themselves from the greater space.
Another benefit to a play couch is the control to choose a seating arrangement. They can use the cushions to make a seating area low to the ground or high in the air. They can lean on an angle or be perfectly upright. They can position the cushions to sit alone or arrange it for a friend to join them.
Headphones with the ability to listen to quiet music, meditation, nature sounds can be helpful. Certain instrumental toys can make calming sounds like a rainstick.
Weighted blankets have been shown to reduce anxiety and provide feelings of calmness. Having access to a weighted blanket and pillows can make a space feel more comfortable and reduce stress levels. Scents can be a great way to calm down so consider having calm down bottles that allow the kids to access the smell without it perfuming the entire space or creating a mess. Think dried lavender in a plastic spice bottle with tight netting glued under the lid.
Make a calm down kit that lets kids engage in tactile activities like pop-its or squishy balls. Flip through books that use age appropriate tools to help practice breathing exercises or learn how to recognize emotions can be useful as well. Some writing tools and paper could be additional options for kids to doodle or journal whatever is on their mind.

Play couches have been the hot new toy the last couple of years. They are endlessly versatile and make a great at home activity for birthday parties. Here are some ways to use your play couch to make the best foam birthday party ever!
Give them a challenge. Let them work together against the clock to build a car, a fort or a big chair for the birthday boy or girl. If you have multiple play couches, then you can split the kid into two groups to race against each other. Winner gets to destroy the build from the other team.
Turn your play couch into a stage and let them dress up, sing, dance and do performances for each other. One play couch couch is enough to build a stage and seats for an audience.
Kids just want to have fun. Have the play couch set up in a fun build when the kids arrive and let them build whatever their hearts desire!
If you have a room where the walls are able to become a part of the maze, this allows you to make an even bigger one. Turn the rectangles to face the sky or double them up to make them taller. You can put the arch on top of the rectangle to have windows in your maze, or put the semi-circle in the arch to have solid walls. When the kids figure out how to get through the maze, simply change the direction of a few shapes and the maze is new again.
To make it more challenging, you can hide objects in the maze to turn it into a treasure hunt. Another option is to hide letters that reveal a hidden message like what a special dessert or movie will be.
This is a great way to play with kids of different ages. If there are 5-6 year olds playing, then they LOVE when two arches fit together like a circle with a hole in the middle to do somersaults through a ring of fire! The 3-4 year old crowd love when the connected mat is inverted like a mountain and they get to climb up and down the mountain. For the 2-3 year old crowd, the triangle makes the perfect spot to help them slide or do assisted somersaults. The arm rests make great steps to climb or jump over. They also work great as bases for the arches to make a tunnel to crawl through.
Set up the cushions as different seats to make a home movie theatre. Let them eat snacks because the cushion covers are removable and waterproof so any mess can be easily cleaned up after the fun.
No matter how you decide to use the play couch as part of your birthday party, we guarantee it will be a hit. Kids love creative play and will have an amazing time! Happy Birthday to your kiddo!
]]>Kids love jumping on the sofa. Throwing the cushions at each other. Playing the floor is lava. Creating a pillow fort. We did it as kids too.
But as parents, we don't love having cushions destroyed (being bust open, covered in sticker residue or drawn on) or having no where to sit because we can't undo the fort.
A play couch is a kids' couch that is designed for play. It’s a sofa comprised from individual modular foam blocks that can be positioned as a couch or used to play with as over-sized foam building blocks. The foam interior is the same as your family sofa but often a little extra firm to have more stability for play.
A play couch is lower to the ground which makes it the perfect height for them to get on and off independently. Usually they are around 8-12 inches off the ground. They make the perfect height for babies to practice pulling to standing and cruising as well.
When your child is potty-training you want to give them independence, but you also don’t want them to ruin the family sofa. Instead of relying on puppy pads to keep your cushions clean, a play couch often includes waterproof liners. The liners are positioned between the foam and the exterior cushion covers and protect the foam from wetness that will cause mold. So if a cup spills or an accident happens, you can take salvage in that it won’t cause ruin to the sofa. This also makes a great place for kids to hang out when they are home from school sick as you can simply wash the covers when they are back to school again.
Kids make messes but couches are usually not washable. Play couch covers are removable and can go in the laundry on cold and hang to dry. We use a bit of hair spray to remove marker and pen or stain-remover spray for other marks. This keeps the play couch looking fresh and saves the family sofa too.
A play couch is all cushion, no frame which eliminates the risk of injury from bashing into a wood arm rest or frame that is exposed when the cushions are on the floor. The pieces make great crash pads to be laid at the base of the family sofa when kids are using the main couch. As well, the play couch cushion covers come with protective zipper pockets so that no one gets a zipper to the face when those cushions go flying.
Because a play couch is made for play it provides hours of entertainment for kids while leaving alone the family sofa and staying off the screen. The modular cushions can be turned into forts, castles, tea parties, playing shop and so much more. They are open-ended so that kids of any age, ability or interest can participate in their own way in a build that is suited to them.
A play couch can also be used in all sorts of games and activities. Check out some inspiration HERE.

]]>As much as we all love a good puddle jump, we can’t spend all day outside on a rainy (or freezing cold or boiling hot day). Or when the baby is napping. Or when a repair person is expected. Or when…. you get the point. Sometimes we want our kids to burn off some energy before bedtime without a trip to the park.
Here are some fun ways to get them active without opening the front door.
An oldie but a goodie! Turn any song on and pause it at random intervals for everyone to stop dancing when the music stops. There is even a “Dance Freeze” song on Spotify that will do the work for you. Just put on the song and let your kids play over and over and over again.
There is also a “Floor is Lava” song that kids LOOOVEEE to dance to.
Pick a narrow hallway in the home and tape streamers horizontally between the two walls in all sorts of random spots. Tape one side high and one side low. Let your kids weave through the streamers to make it from one side to the other without knocking down the laser beams (aka the streamers). Play Mission Impossible for extra intensity!
A play couch works wonders for using up energy indoors. Have the kids make some builds themselves or turn your foam pieces into a gymnastics mat or obstacle course. They can turn the largest piece into a stair slide and will spend ages go up and down the slide. Or build a tower to jump off into a ballpit or crashpad.
Indoor Jungle Gym
These take up a lot of space but they sure are fun. Some are made out of wood and lower to the ground for younger kids, while other brands gets quite complicated and are secured to the ceiling or wall. They can involve monkey bars, slides, rope and more. They are basically a residential version of a playground.
Races
Compete in a foot race from one of the basement to the other. Make it more challenging and compete in a crab walk. See who can race the slowest. Or the lowest. Or the silliest.
Sports
Have a ball to play a round of soccer inside? What about letting one of the kids lead the others in yoga or another aerobic activity. They will have fun taking turns playing teacher and student.
There are some great fitness videos on Youtube of kids doing karate, dance and yoga that kids can follow along to at home.
Jump away that energy on a trampoline! Play a trivia game while jumping or put on some tunes.
We know it can be hard to fill the hours when we are stuck inside all day, but with a little creativity or imagination we can turn these days of boredom into fun family memories.
]]>There’s just something universally magical and nostalgic about building forts. Ask any adult if they built forts as a kid, and the answer is a resounding yes. They can probably even tell you where, when and with what they built their favourite forts.
I have vivid memories of turning my sister’s bunk bed into a hidden cave. And memories of hanging blankets down over the staircase in my childhood home and even moving bookcases around to get the perfect blanket roof height.
Fort making is not a fad. Forts are here to stay.
Fort building combines so many lessons for children into one activity whether it be sharing, imaginative play, gross motor skill development, creativity and maybe a lesson about gravity.
As parents, fort building lets us play creatively with our kids while having fun. In fact, what movies like Shrek are to parents is what fort building is to play. While the main audience is children, parents will (usually) have a good time too. And when we are having a good time, our kids can tell and in turn we are effectively creating more meaningful happy memories together.
We remember our favourite forts as kids, wouldn’t it be nice for our kids if their fort building memories included us?

As of today, November 24th we are shipping out of our warehouse in 1-3 days. Deliveries within Ontario are arriving within a few days and deliveries outside of Ontario are taking between 1-2 weeks. As we come to the end of the week (and Black Friday occurs), shipping carriers will become swamped and timelines will likely increase. We would encourage you to make your purchase sooner rather than later to avoid getting caught up in these delays.
While it is ideal to open your play couch as soon as possible, it can stay compressed in the box if need be until Christmas morning. We think it would be fun to open it in advance and have it ready for play in a fun build for Christmas morning. BUT, if that is not possible, not to fret, just know that it will just take a little longer for your play couch to fully fluff up and for the foam to become fully firm.
Happy Holidays
Barumba Play
]]>It’s the sustainable alternative popping up to replace some of the unnecessary impulse buying done on Black Friday. Green Friday aims to encourage everyone to shop thoughtfully and not just make a purchase because the deal is there. Overconsumption leads to unnecessary waste. Simple as that. We want to be a part of a future where we buy what we need and think about the entire life cycle at the product development stage.
Our tagline is “Toys that do more™.” It is part of our mission to create multi-purpose toys that can substitute for owning several toys. This allows families to own fewer toys, which will result in less material entering the landfill. Down the road we hope to offer a variety of sustainability programs such as offering individual foam pieces for replacement and a take-back recycling foam program.
We think it is wasteful when someone purchases the same toy in blue that they already own in pink. We think it is shameful that there are toys so poorly made that they break the day they are opened. We think there is so much room for the industry to do better. We are a new company and have so much we want to change and contribute to this vision over time. The current changes we are trying very hard to accomplish right now is our goal to manufacture in North America and swap our fabric to a more sustainable option.
So for these reasons, we have decided to participate in Green Friday this year by donating $25 from each sale to the David Suzuki Foundation. David Suzuki has been championing environmental causes in Canada for decades. His foundation focuses on a variety of initiatives across the country. And until midnight on November 30th “Giving Tuesday” all donations will be matched. So for your purchase on Green Friday, it will result in $50 being donated towards environmental causes in Canada.
We hope you’ll join us in being thoughtful with your purchases and the types of companies we want to support and the type of planet we want for our children.
]]>Fortunately, the play couch is there to make your indoor-entertaining much easier. So many of the ways to play are based on different types of play like pretend play, active play and more. This makes the play couch feel like a new toy even if you are just changing the game.
Here are some ways to help fill your rainy days with a a play couch
Fort Building
A classic! Who (including mom and dad) don’t love a good fort build? Add in some blankets for an awesome roof. If you are up for it, let them add in the sofa cushions for an even more epic fort. Our arches make great tunnels for cool entrances and our big connected rectangle piece makes a sturdy wall or a long roof.
It’s ShowTime
It is easy to set up some of your play couch pieces like a stage for singing, dancing and acting. If you have a karaoke machine or string lights add them to for some extra ambience. You can even let them set up their stuffed animals in the audience to have a crowd! In our house, Frozen songs can play for hours on repeat so this is always an activity that takes up a lot of time.
Dr. Office
With so many Barumba Play pieces, it is possible to turn one play couch into a doctor office and a waiting room. Treat those stuffies ailments one patient at a time.
Puppet theatre
Using the arch piece on top of a rectangle make a great puppet theatre. Use dolls, stuffed animals, anything you have around if you don’t have actual puppets to take turns putting on shows.
Gymnastics
Using the large mat for somersault and cartwheel practice is always good for a 30 minute activity. Make sure to supervise your kids and ensure they only play within their limits. After gymnastics camp this summer, this became a daily routine in our house to practice many types of floor activities using the play couch.

]]>When Marie Kondo took the world by storm a few years ago, families all over the world were decluttering their homes and folding their shirts in ways their mother’s never could have imagined. Her concept of keeping only what “sparks joy” had us viewing our possessions in a new light. Now we have found that families are applying her philosophy into the playroom.
]]>“My kids have too many toys”. This is a statement we hear regularly. Between birthday and holiday presents, hand-me-downs and giving in to a new toy at Walmart to stop the crying- parents are feeling overwhelmed with stuff.
More and more parents are taking a new approach to the playroom by only keeping toys that serve their families and letting go of the toys that don’t earn their space in the home. Any parent at this exact moment, probably doesn’t even need to move from where they are seated to spot a toy or two.
We are seeing families being more thoughtful with the toys they allow in their homes. They are choosing toys that their child(ren) will use for more years, toys that are easy to store and toys that often contain no electronics. By curating the toys in their home towards the toys that their kids use more often, they can clear out the toys that are rarely used or do not entertain them for more than a few moments.
It is no surprise that here at Barumba Play™ our tagline is “toys that do more” as we want to be a part of this movement and help provide families with the types of toys that allow them to own less stuff. We envision a future where homes are not overwhelmed with toy clutter and parents feel like their home is their space too.

Fort making is not a fad. Forts are here to stay.
Fort-building combines so many lessons for children into one activity whether it be sharing, imaginative play, gross motor skills development, creativity and maybe a lesson about gravity.
As parents, we don’t all enjoy pretend play with our children such as participating in make believe scenes with dolls or pretending to be a sick patient. We can feel guilty for avoiding or not fully-participating with our kids in these types of play that don’t always hold our interest.
Fort-building provides a way to play creatively with our kids and still have fun. And when we are having a good time, our kids can tell and in turn we are effectively creating more meaningful happy memories together for them and for us.
We remember our favourite forts as a kid, wouldn’t it be nice for our kids if those memories building amazing forts included us?
]]>Anytime a bunch of toddlers get together, it will inevitably be loud, messy and a little sticky. So when anything fabric is in the area, it stands that eventually the fabric will get dirty and need to be cleaned. Not so easy when the fabric is your sofa in the daycare with cushions that cannot come off!
Enter. The Play Couch.
The play couch provides a great alternative for seating in a home daycare as the covers are removable and can go in the laundry. This keeps furniture sanitary.
On top of that, waterproof liners protect the cushions from liquid damage stemming from sippy cup spills or potty-training accidents. Who wants their sofa ruined by a three year old who forgot to tell you that they need to use the potty? Waterproof liners are a lifesaver that protects the investment in your furniture.
We also know that kids will find a way to make anything dangerous and eating foam is not off limits. That is why we have also made sure to include zipper pockets in our design so that little hands cannot unzip the fabric covers to try and access the foam. It also protects from zipper damage against the body if a pillow lands square in the face.
Another benefit for home daycares is that anything you purchase for the home daycare is a write off! What’s a write off? You just write it off! In all seriousness, in most of the world, it is a business expense that you purchased and you can deduct it on your tax return from your income.
We think our play couch is perfectly suited for home daycares because it comes with so many pieces- 11 to be in fact. Standard play couches only come with four pieces which are not enough to share with everyone and also don’t come with some smaller easy-to-lift shapes that pre-schoolers can participate in moving around themselves.
If you are thinking of updating your home daycare furniture, check out Barumba Play for your space!
